Aims/objectives

  • to get inspired by thoughts
  • to gain a wider understanding of the concept of solidarity (or another selected topic, e.g. peace, diversity, intercultural dialogue, participation or volunteering)

Material needed

  • a string or clothesline (minimum 5 metres length)
  • clothes pegs (minimum 30 pieces)
  • cards with quotations (hand written and/or printed)
  • empty rectangular (moderation) cards
  • markers or felt tips
  • enough space and gadgets to hang the line
  • poster or handouts with instructions

Preparation

  • Research, collect and write or print a range of quotes on the chosen topic.
  • Install the line and hang up the prepared cards with the citations.
  • Prepare a poster or handout with the following (or a similar) instruction:

Reference / original source of the method

The line of thoughts was initially introduced at the „Learning Ocean“ during the aces Kick-Off Meeting 2010 (back then on the concept of peace). It was also used at the aces Kick-Off Meetings 2011 (on volunteering) and 2012 (on media literacy) as well as during the aces Academy 2016 (on solidarity).
